Elements of Effective Signs

Updated: May 25, 2022

Not all décor elements are signs, but all signs should be décor elements.

Off The Wall treats all signs as décor elements.

Successful signage involves more than just creating an attractive arrangement of words and pictures. It is a complex blend of elements that include materials, lighting, placement, graphics, images, typeface, and size of each and all these elements. In addition, it’s an understanding of location, marketplace and demographics

Off The Wall began as a sign company over 40 years ago. It quickly evolved into the design and fabrication of décor as well, but it has never lost sight of the basic principles of what makes an effective sign.

ELEMENTS OF EFFECTIVE SIGNING

1. BRANDING: Each sign in a store doesn’t necessarily need to carry the company’s logo,

but all of the signs in a store should feel as if cut from the same cloth.

2. IMPACT: This is achieved through color contrast, size differences, 3-dimensionality, and/or lighting.
